Have your view or perception of censorship changed after doing your group project?
Ans: Yes. It changed my scope on censorship.
Explain how it has changed?
Ans:
At first, I think the issue of censorship is just for film. What I know is about Lembaga Penapisan Filem (LPF) which has 3 categories of age group such as 13, 18+ and universal.
After receiving assignment paper from lecturers, I just realized that film is not the only one get banned in Malaysia. However, there are some others art like theatre, drawing art, traditional performance and so on which experienced the censorship as well.
Before knowing the censorship deeply, I think that censorship is just want to control and to make the nation at the safe zone. However, I think too much censorship will limit a nation's improvement after explanation of lecturers and research from Internet. For example, if people are not allow to voice out their opinions then a country will not know what the problems are.
Moving to next point, people should not judge a book by its cover. For instance, the conflict between Chinese and Malay had happened due to the incident of May 13 in 1969. Because of this, performance like Lion Dance and any other arts related to political parties get banned. So, I think the action of without understanding the art is wrong because who knows it will bring benefit instead of disadvantage.
