Introduction of the arts
For me, the art is something that are creative which means something that never done before. Due to its creative, people are easy to remember it other than those ideas which are already in used. So, what had I learnt about the arts during class?
Firstly, the arts had divided into several branches which they are movie, drama, music, dance, photography and visual art. However, photography and visual art are the only two that shown in the class.
Visual art that drawn by like famous artists and Pablo Picasso which the topic related to war were used to student to think of the term of representational and non-representational art. The first two arts still able to find something related to war but it was hard when it comes to Pablo Picasso's work because there are not much things that represent the war.
Next, the images of different angle of showing middle finger were also showed when in class time and I learnt that something that show human features will be call as figurative. Although the photos are 2 dimension, the visual art of the middle finger was considered as 3 dimension due to it occupied space dimension.
Steps to analyse art
To determine what type of the art, it has 5 ways to do it such as what can the observer see, what the art made of, who made it, when was it made and what is it about.
Yet, the two important steps that can explain the art are the first and third one. Why? From the art, observer is able to tell what the art maker tried to deliver and another reason is because the background of the art maker can determine what experiences had he or she faced before.
Benefits of the arts
For short term benefits of learning the arts, it gives the learner to know some of the basics of the arts which allows he or she can share the basics to other people to increase the awareness of the arts. On the other hand, it helps to give an idea to people who want to make their own work which improve the previous work and give out their new idea and opinion.
Opinion
I think it is important for all students study about Malaysia art in UTAR. This is because students are more rely on the things that are already exist nowadays. Thus, students are lack of creativity compare to the student before which they preferred something already there instead of making something new. For the research that did before by someone, they said that students will work well in other subject area as well as they get motivated in arts.

Hmm... I thought "something that has never been done before" would be "original" rather than creative. Although, I will grant you that originality is part of creativity.
ReplyDeleteActually, for Picasso's painting, there are plenty of things that are symbolically related to war but they are symbols that only Picasso can understand. We do not understand the symbols or find them tough to decipher because they are non-representational. Generally, non-representational art is harder to figure out because they do not represent things we know or can recognize easily.
Good job explaining the short term benefits. What about long term ones?
